‘Craft and Cake’ Parent Workshop

 In News and events

Friends of the Family teamed up with Winchester Young Carers on Thursday 16th June to provide a Craft and Cake session for the parents who are being supported by both organisations. Eight mums and dads joined in to make bead hearts and crowns which was led by Jill and Lin from the Colour Factory in Winchester. Jill said “It was great to work with such a creative and inspired group of parents in a lovely relaxed environment. Although everybody started off with the same craft project the final beaded hearts were delightfully different, unique works of art!”

The process of selecting and threading beads onto a wire and wrapping it around a frame was very therapeutic. As parents relaxed into the craft they engaged in chat about their children and families. Adele Dodds from Parent Voice was also on hand to let parents know about this service which offers to support to families with children who have additional needs.

The parents then enjoyed a range of homemade cakes, cream and strawberry scones and chocolate cookies with tea and coffee before taking their completed crafts home.

One mum said “This was such a lovely afternoon, I have really enjoyed making my bead heart and meeting the other parents.. After a rubbish week this was just what I needed!”
