PRESS RELEASE: CHILDREN TAKE ON NEW CHALLENGES AT ANNUAL ACTIVITY DAY

 In Media

Children and volunteers from Friends of the Family’s 5s to 13s befriending service have enjoyed a day of thrills and spills at Calshot for their annual activity day. The trip took place on 30th August and gave 15 children the opportunity to try new experiences, overcome their fears and have fun.

All of the children, who are aged between 5 and 13 and live in the Winchester area, were given the chance to participate in three adventure-style activities: ringos, low-wall rock climbing and the giant swing. The three one-hour sessions provided them with the opportunity to push their boundaries and boost their self-confidence. It also allowed them to socialise and engage with new people outside of their home environment.

The hot weather enabled everyone to enjoy a packed lunch on the beach, paddle in the sea and collect shells. To round off the trip, the children were treated to an ice-cream by the St Vincent De Paul Society who also provided volunteer drivers and two mini buses for the day.

Sam Hunt, 5s to 13s Befriending Manager at Friends of the Family, said: I’d like to say a huge thank you to our volunteers and the volunteer drivers from the St Vincent De Paul Society for their kindness and generosity in supporting an amazing day out for our 5s to 13s children. The children worked really hard, supported each other and had great fun trying all of the new activities.”

Volunteer Befriender, Sue King, said: “What a privilege it was to be part of such an enjoyable day supporting the 5s to 13s activity day. I have been involved in organising many similar events myself and I can really appreciate the charity’s commitment to making it a perfect day for all the children. They had a fabulous day from beginning to end. Supporters of this fabulous charity can be assured that funds are well spent and resources well managed.”

Friends of the Family’s 5s to 13s Befriending service was set up in 2009 after receiving a Big Lottery Grant and works to support children and families across the Winchester district who are in need of support and friendship.
