Friends of the Family’s Chair of Trustees, Karen Hazlitt, has warmly welcomed new trustee, Chris Bale MBE to the Board.

Chris, from Fleet, brings with him a wealth of experience in the charity sector. He has worked in the non-profit sector for 35 years, nationally and internationally, and has been awarded the MBE for services to charity. As the founding Director of Partnership for Children, he has a particular interest in promoting the emotional wellbeing of young children.

The 11-strong board of trustees is chaired by Karen Hazlitt, who was appointed to the position of Chair of Trustees in November 2019, having served on the board since 2013.

Karen, who has lived in Winchester since 1996, said: “I am thrilled to welcome Chris to our Board of Trustees. Chris’ knowledge of the sector, combined with his passion for funding, will be a great asset to Friends of the Family as we look to continue the support we provide to families in need of our services across the Winchester district.”

Commenting on his reasons for becoming a trustee, Chris said: “The relentless cutting of national and local government budgets has left many families vulnerable and unsupported by the state. In this situation, the voluntary sector becomes even more important and Friends of the Family delivers much-needed services in a cost-effective way.”

“I hope that my professional skills and experience, especially in the areas of governance and funding, can help Friends of the Family to become stronger and more sustainable.”
