Puppet Fun!

In 5 to 13 year olds, News and events, Volunteering

This week our focus children and their befrienders were invited to come, make and play with puppets at a 5s to 13s Befriending workshop.

An array of felt, wool, fabric pens, googly eyes, buttons and sparkly stickers were made available to both children and adults so they could create their own individual hand puppets. The children confidently sewed their puppets together before personlising them with any combination of resources that they selected. One child made a happy puppet on one side and a sad on the other, whilst another child said “Mine is an alien from outer space and he is going to have ten eyes!”

As a healthy treat the children were also invited to make their own fruit kebabs. One focus child said “I didn’t know if I liked this one (kiwi fruit) but I do! I am going to tell my mum that I like it so she can get some for me.” Two of our amazing volunteers also brought some home made cookies and jelly which both the adults and children throughly enjoyed.

One of our trustees Sarah, who came along to the workshop, said “This was such a lovely relaxed workshop. It is great to be able to see the children try new experiences and activities with the support of their befrienders. It is such a privilege to see how their relationships develop over time.”
