Gorgeous Gargoyles!

In 5 to 13 year olds, News and events

On a wet and windy Wednesday in January the 5s to 13s focus children and their befrienders were welcomed into the cathedral to learn about the amazing gargoyles that have protected the Cathedral for nearly 1000 years!
Emma Bourner, Learning Director at the Cathedral told the children about how the gargoyles were given wide open mouths to help direct the rainwater away from the cathedral and protect the precious stone that the cathedral is built out of.
The children then had the chance to draw their own gargoyles before they and their adult befrienders created their own out of clay.
This was a great workshop and everyone enjoyed manipulating the clay, using the tools and all produced their own incredible creatures!
One focus child said, “I was a bit worried about making my gargoyle but it was easy and I like his big nose!” and a volunteer said “Playing with the clay was really calming, I have really enjoyed myself and so has my focus child.”
