Getting Creative in The Gallery
On Thursday 25th August the 5s to 13s focus children and their befrienders were invited, by the gallery manager Kate Maple, to The Winchester Gallery to particpate in a creative workshop with local artist Joe Ross.
The workshop was on the theme of bicycles and our memories of riding a bike. There were several different activities available to everyone during the session including observational drawings of real bicycles and recording their words and feelings about what cycling means to them on a wall in the gallery. The children really enjoyed doing this and wrote things like “Fun!”, “Sore legs!” “Freedom and adventures” and The breeze on my face.”
With Joe’s guidance the children and their befrienders also worked collaboratively on a large scale creation about bicycles and the journeys that can be taken on a bike. This resulted in a huge picture that was then displayed for everyone to see.
Thank you to both Joe and Kate for inviting us to explore the Gallery and we will definitely come and use the space again.
