Summer Fun at Calshot!

In 5 to 13 year olds, News and events

The 5s to 13s focus children and their befrienders were treated to a day of fun and adventures at Calshot Activity Centre on Wednesday 28th August which was generously funded by Winchester Round Table.

The day started out with a convoy of 9 cars transporting 27 children, befrienders and staff down to the activity centre at Calshot spit.

Once settled in, the children and adults were invited to speed their way down the dry ski slope in giant rubber ringos! This was exhausting but so much fun and the children and adults thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Next we went out on the beach in the gorgeous sunshine searching for treasure! The children searched for a variety of different things including “lucky stones” (stones with holes through them) and mermaid’s tears (sea glass) and mermaid’s bikinis (a shell with two halves still joined together!) After a picnic lunch, pebble painting and a paddle in the sea the children had the opportunity to experience the Take Off Wall which involved them climbing up 8m high walls of varying difficulty. All the children who took part in this activity were amazing and completed the challenges that they were set with enthusiasm and confidence. We finished our fantastic day with a delicious ice cream and a final play on the beach!

One volunteer befriender said “Thank you to everyone involved in organising the the day. It has been amazing. The children and adults have all had a wonderful day. The children have got along so well together; it is lovely to see them making new friends through shared experiences.”

In response to seeing a video of her son climbing to the top of the Take Off Wall one mum said “Wow he climbed super high! Thank you for the lovely videos and photos, my son had a super day and really enjoyed himself! So thank you!”
