Calshot Capers!

In 5 to 13 year olds, News and events

On Thursday 27th August, some of our 5s to 13s children and their befrienders enjoyed an action-packed day out at Calshot Activity Centre, kindly funded by the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.

Everyone met at the Park and Ride before boarding our big yellow Alresford minibus for the journey down to the seaside. Once we arrived at Calshot, the fun began with a session of Ringos on the dry ski slope.

Some of our younger children were a little hesitant at first, but with plenty of encouragement and support from our wonderful volunteers, they were soon coaxed down the shallower slope. As their confidence grew, they progressed to the larger, steeper slope. By the end of the session, all the children were enthusiastically whizzing down the slope with huge smiles on their faces!

After a well-earned drink and snack, we headed down to the beach to take part in the Friends of the Family Scavenger Hunt. The children enjoyed searching the beach for a variety of items, including lucky stones, a pebble that looked like something else and the elusive mermaids’ tears, also known as sea glass.

Next came the Take Off Wall, where the children (and some brave adults!) took on the climbing wall before abseiling back down. The children were fantastic, confidently scaling the walls at impressive speed!

It was then time to refuel with a picnic lunch and enjoy some well-earned playtime on the beach. The children made the most of being by the sea, paddling in the water, building elaborate sandcastles and even holding stone-throwing competitions.

It was a truly wonderful day out, thoroughly enjoyed by both the children and adults. One of the children who was celebrating her 6th birthday that day, summed up the experience perfectly “This is the best birthday ever!”

A huge thank you to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society for funding such a fantastic day and for organising the transport to and from Calshot. We are also very grateful to all our volunteers for helping to make it such a memorable day for the children.
