PRESS RELEASE: QUILTS DONATED TO FRIENDS OF THE FAMILY

 In Media

Local groups have come together to make two unique quilts which they have donated to Friends of the Family. The Kings Worthy Stitch and Knit group and the Winchester Discoverers WI took just under four months to make the quilts with approximately 20 sewing enthusiasts taking part. Featuring the characters Sun Bonnet Sue and Overall Sam, the smaller quilt will be used by the charity’s Mums and Young Children Group, whilst the larger quilt will be auctioned to raise funds for the charity.

Esther Madden and Alison Day from the Kings Worthy Stitch and Knit group came up with the idea to make the quilts for charity.

Alison said: “We wanted to help a local children’s charity and, after speaking to a volunteer, decided Friends of the Family was perfect! We’d like to thank all the ladies who took part and The King Charles Pub in Kings Worthy who allowed us to use their venue for workshops and quilting bees. We couldn’t have done it without their support.”

Thanking the members for the donation, Viv Wheeler, Chair of Trustees at Friends of the Family, said: “This is a wonderful donation and we are extremely grateful to the group members for choosing Friends of the Family. They are really beautiful quilts which we are thrilled to accept.”
