Spotlight on volunteering with Friends of the Family!

Long term volunteer and trustee Nicky shares her thoughts on what is is like to volunteer with Friends of the Family.

I loved being a volunteer. After my thorough training, I felt more than prepared to take on a family and it was great to be able to help and support families in a meaningful way. I always felt confident that I was never alone, and it felt good to belong to a group of people who are so willing to effect change in the lives of people who need the support.

Later, after my time with my focus family was over, I became a trustee. Although this role is very different, it helped to know first-hand what our volunteers do, and how it helps families. It is a privilege to work with other trustees to ensure the future of the charity and make sure families can be supported and helped during difficult times. Neither role takes up huge amounts of time, but both are fulfilling and very much needed in the stressful and challenging world in which we all are living.

If you are interested in finding out more about volunteering as a Befriender, we are still accepting applications for our next training dates taking place on Thursday 12th and Saturday 14th January 2023.
