Cake decorating workshop

On Wednesday 17th Oct children and volunteers from the 5s to13s Befriending took part in a cake decorating workshop after school. Thirteen children were provided with half a dozen cupcakes each and let loose with butter cream, coloured fondant, a variety of decorative cutters, sprinkles and edible glitter to create their own unique cupcakes to take home and share with their families.

The children were supported by their volunteers and local cake decorator Helen Hodges popped into give the children some pointers when using the variety of tools and resources. The children were very creative which resulted in some very professional looking results at the end. Helen said that the children had done really well as it is not easy to pipe butter cream!

The children and volunteers also enjoyed a healthy picnic tea of wraps, fruit, and flapjacks together before taking their delicious cakes home.

Volunteer befriender, Susan Chesters, said “What a terrific workshop… It was a really fun and feel-good occasion.”
