A group of Winchester children, aged between 5 and 13, will be able to experience a thrilling activity day thanks to a £500 donation from Waitrose. The 18 children, who are all currently receiving support from Friends of the Family’s 5s to 13s Befriending Service, now have the opportunity to visit Calshot Activities Centre, one of the largest outdoor adventure centres in Britain, in August.

They will be joined by the charity’s volunteer befrienders who will be providing support and encouragement as the children try out some of the activities including the tallest climbing wall in the south and the indoor dry ski slope.

The donation is part of the John Lewis and Waitrose Give a Little Love community campaign which aims to make a difference to local families in need.

Sam Hunt, 5s to 13s Befriending Manager, was thrilled to receive the cheque from Clodagh O’Reilly, Waitrose Partner and Community Lead, on 13th July. Sam said:

“We are so looking forward to giving our children this exciting opportunity to come together as a group and experience the thrilling activities that Calshot has to offer. We would like to say a very big thank you to Waitrose for choosing Friends of the Family and enabling the children to challenge themselves, make friends and try new experiences.”

Friends of the Family’s 5s to 13s Befriending Service has been providing support and friendship to children across the Winchester district for over 10 years. They currently have vacancies for volunteer befrienders to join their team. For further information email volunteer@fotfwinchester.org or call 01962 864466.
